VAN’S RV-14
Fast. Spacious. 100% RV
MODERN DESIGN
The RV-14 is our most advanced design – the result of what we have learned over many years of aircraft manufacturing and flying, as well as the wishes of our customers.AEROBATICS
It’s not just bigger – the RV-14 can operate in the aerobatic category, so all those loops and rolls are yours!TALL PILOTS, REJOICE
You wanted the spaciousness of the RV-10 in a two-seater aircraft. This is what you need. Tall and wide pilots will fit perfectly.DESIGN
The first thing to note is the high seating position in the RV-14 cockpit. The vertical seating and the large domed canopy provide excellent visibility in all directions. The spacious cockpit (the size of a four-seater aircraft) is roomy. There’s ample space overhead, for legs, and between seats. People of large build will like this aircraft!
The forward-tilting canopy uses a new scheme of hinge loops, allowing it to be widely opened for entry and luggage loading. This also provides full access to the interior side of the instrument panel and the connectors for navigation equipment.
The RV-14 has a standard scheme for connecting usual electrical devices: lights, fuel pump, flaps, controls, etc. The wing has a constant taper and constant thickness, which eases construction and ensures full controllability in flight. Large flaps allow maintaining low speed during landing. Fuel tanks can be removed without detaching the wing from the aircraft.
At the front is a 210-horsepower Lycoming IO-390 engine. The “4 into 1” exhaust system from Van’s is low noise. The RV-14’s design features an aluminum monocoque frame riveted together. This method has been a staple in aircraft construction for nearly seven decades.
The safety of the pilot and passengers is an important factor. A massive beam with an arch structure covers the top of the cabin right behind the seatbacks. Seats and belts securely hold the pilot and passengers in flight.
The main landing gear consists of conical steel leaf springs with a wheel on one side, and the aircraft on the other. It has no lubrication parts, belts, or shock absorbers. The nose wheel is on a sturdy steel strut.
SPECIFICATIONS AND PERFORMANCE DATA
The RV-14 cockpit is designed for a tall crew. Both seats accommodate individuals at least 193 cm tall.
The aircraft’s design meets the standards for aerobatics (+6/-3G) with a total weight of 862 kg. The vast wing area and large slotted flaps of the RV-14 make landing possible at virtually any small airport. It performs well on grass, dirt, and gravel runways. Even at full load, the RV-14 can take off from very short runways and climb in densely built-up areas.
The high cruise speed of the RV-14 is due to its light, streamlined, and fairly compact glider design, not a large and fuel-hungry engine. This not only achieves high cruise speeds but also makes it very economical at low speeds. Company pilots typically fly at 50-55% power, achieving astonishing fuel efficiency. At a speed of 282 km/h (175 mph), the RV-14 shows fuel consumption better than most luxury cars and SUVs it flies over.
